Well clearly for a while I failed at this blog. And a lot of things have changed since I wrote last, both in my life and the other blogs I read (which I haven’t really kept up with either). But every once in a while- like now- I have something that I need to throw out into the blogosphere. Here goes…
At the end of my second ship contract, I dated a musician, probably against my better judgement. It was one of those situations where he liked me more than I liked him. I was the first person he dated since he’d gotten divorced, he was… well,… not the first person I’d been with that contract. Anyway, we dated for about a week, which in ship life is closer to 2 months. During this week, he wrote me a song. Now, this is awkward for two reasons 1.) because we aren’t really on the same like-each-other level, and 2.) because it is always awkward to have someone sing a song to you. Trust me, I’m not really a romantic type of girl, and in no way is this cute.
Anyway, I broke up with him, but that didn’t really seem to sink in. I only had one week left on my contract, and spent it hanging out with my friends, intentionally keeping myself pretty busy. I got an email or two right after I got off the ship, but after a couple less-than-warm replies, I figured he’d given up.
A year later, I got a message on MySpace from him, saying that he recorded the song and asking if I wanted a copy. I didn’t reply. Really, a year later? I had pretty much forgotten about the whole thing, and not wanting to encourage any rekindling type of behavior, figured that was the best move. It was kind of an awkward choice to make, as I’m friends with most of my exes and we have many friends in common.
Today, I logged onto mySpace to find a couple friend requests and a message. I hardly ever use the account, but once in a while get on and catch up. In my inbox, was a message from him. I got through enough to read that the song is now posted on his site before I logged off MySpace. I didn’t even want to read the rest.
Damn technology….
